Dexilant is a prescription medication that is used to treat acid reflux disease and heartburn. This protein pump inhibitor is unique because it releases a dose of medication at two different times. However, there is no conclusive evidence that finds this is more effective at treating acid reflux than other pills found on the market. If you are considering Dexilant or if your doctor has prescribed this medication for you, it is very important that you become aware of the Dexilant side effects.
Your stomach has millions of tiny pumps that produce acid. This acid helps to digest the food you eat. Sometimes the stomach acid will back up into your esophagus and produce heartburn. This is commonly called gastro-esophageal reflux disease or GERD. One of the most effective ways to prevent heartburn is to stop these tiny pumps from producing acid. Medications that are used for this purpose are called protein pump inhibitors or PPIs. Dexilant is a PPI.
